Cal Poly English Major Wins Academy of American Poets Award

Cal Poly English major Marissa Ahmadkhani of Gilroy, Calif., won Cal Poly’s Academy of American Poets Contest.

Ahmadkhani took top prize for her poem “On Remembering,” which renders the aftermath of a love relationship. She will receive a $100 award from the academy.

Cal Poly Creative Writers to Read at 25th Anniversary Byzantium Event May 28

Cal Poly English Department Names 2015 American Scholar Prize Winner

Cal Poly English junior Abigail Johnson was named the 2015 American Scholar Prize winner for a literary essay she wrote. She will receive her award and $500 at the English Department commencement ceremony on Sunday, June 14.

Cal Poly English Department Now Accepting Poetry Contest Submissions

Cal Poly's English Department is now accepting submissions for the 2015 Academy of American Poets contest.

All registered Cal Poly students are eligible to enter for the chance to win the $100 first-place prize. To enter, students can submit up to three poems totaling no more than 150 lines.
