The Cal Poly English Department is incredibly excited to announce the establishment of the first-ever Cal Poly English Department Endowment. This endowment has been created through the generous funding and support of the Cal Poly English Department Advisory Board and Cal Poly English Department alumni to honor Dr. Kathryn Rummell, who served as the department’s longstanding chair from 2008-2020.  

The English Department maintains its ongoing commitment to Learn by Doing through various tangible activities and initiatives. Some examples include:  

Our literary journal Intertidal (formerly Byzantium), which published its inaugural, newly branded issue in spring 2023; 

Technical and professional communication service-learning projects in the community; 

Field trips to local theatrical productions in Santa Maria and the Los Angeles Printers Fair; and  

Study abroad programs in London, the Lake District and Scotland.

We hope you will join us in this next era of impact to help ensure Cal Poly English majors achieve academic success at Cal Poly and in their future professional endeavors.
