County Board of Supervisors Resolution:

RESOLUTION TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR CALEB NICHOLS AS THE POET LAUREATE OF SAN LUIS OBISPO COUNTY

The following resolution is hereby offered and read:

WHEREAS, Caleb Nichols graduated from Bangor University in North Wales, United Kingdom, with a PhD in Creative and Critical Writing and from Cal Poly State University in San Luis Obispo, California with a Master of Arts in English Literature, with distinction; and

WHEREAS, Caleb Nichols is a lecturer in the English Department at Cal Poly State University, San Luis Obispo; and WHEREAS, Caleb Nichols is currently engaged in building a literary arts community in San Luis Obispo through hosting workshops, readings, and literary events via the SLO Book Bike; and

WHEREAS, Caleb Nichols will be the recipient of the San Luis Obispo County Poet Laureate by the SLO County Arts Council, with a two-year term starting in 2025; and

WHEREAS, the mission of the Poet Laureate is to elevate poetry in the awareness of San Luis Obispo County residents and to help celebrate the literary arts, serve as an advocate for poetry, literature, and the arts, lead community projects that make poetry more accessible; and contribute to San Luis Obispo County’s poetry and literary legacy; and

WHEREAS, Caleb Nichols will elevate the exposure, participation, and celebration of poetry in San Luis Obispo County through the lens of the people.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED AND ORDERED that the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Luis Obispo, State of California, does hereby recognize and honor Caleb Nichols as the Poet Laureate of San Luis Obispo County.
