While at Cal Poly, what resources did you take advantage of that have helped you in your current position?

I maximized the free electives offered as an English student to earn a minor in Economics. The program allows you enough leeway where you can really make the most of your educational experience.

What advice would you give to someone interested in your profession?

Take advantage of working internships in college or part-time jobs. Having something that is not only work-related, but professionally relevant, for your resumé is very helpful. I wish I had done more of that as an undergraduate.

Is there anything you'd like to personally add about how you found your way to your current career since graduating from Cal Poly as an English major? Any memorable epiphanies that marked major turning points on which path you chose?

I am actually moving into a new field of work - law and criminology. It's been a passion of mine for several years and now I'm in the Master's of Advanced Study program with UC Irvine. I have just started the program, but have found my background as an English major is paying off in spades already. I hope to utilize my education in writing and communications, along with my professional experience and my newly advanced education to springboard myself onto a new career path of public service.
